Baby Sensory Tray & Easy Activity

by Hannah Walton aka The Cheapskate Mom

Easy Baby Sensory Idea !

I have become enamored with utilizing Montessori, sensory-heavy approaches to raising my son since discovering Living Montessori Now – and I got to thinking about ways to start doing sensory activities with my son even in his babyhood. What I've learned so far is that sensory activities encourage children to learn about their environment by encouraging them to touch, see, smell, taste, and hear things (by using their senses). Through exploring with their senses children start classifying the things around them and this helps them adapt to their environments.

My son just loves his Bumbo baby chair but I haven't really found a great way to use the Bumbo's tray attachment until today. I was reading up about sensory activities and it occurred to me that I could add some water and his bath tugboat to the tray – and let him have fun!

Make a Bumbo Water Play Tray:
You need:
water
something to scoot on the water ( i used a boat)
Add a thin layer of water after baby is already in seat and tray is attached (i learned this the messy way!). Add a water toy and you are good for several minutes of  sensory exploration fun. Be sure to supervise!
