Cheap Body Wash : Make Your Own

by Hannah Walton aka The Cheapskate Mom

If you prefer body wash to bars of soap….

but like me you're on a bar soap budget, you're in luck today if you have water, a bar of soap,an old bottle,  a cheese style grater you don't use anymore (or one from the dollar store), and a pan. I made Irish Spring body wash for husband and it came out great – I can't wait to make him Aveda bodywash for a Christmas gift! Since a bar of soap is only about .70 cents, and a container of body wash is at least $4.00 – I saved a ton of money with just a little bit of elbow grease! As you may know, I'm not the most talented craftster – so this recipe is super easy for the least talented among us :)

Supplies needed To Make Body Wash:

4 Cups Water
1 Bar of Soap
Cheese Grater
Pan
Some Kind of Body Wash Container ( I used an old olive oil container that I washed like five times)

Grate Bar of Soap

Add Water

Stir

Heat Over Medium Heat, Stirring Constantly

After a few minutes, soap will be melted. Take off heat and allow to cool for several hours.

The mixture will seem really liquidy for a while – but trust me – it will turn very, very gooey later.

Enjoy.

Thanks guys!

So cool!  It’s amazing how much money you can save doing this  - those saving will add up too! I have some beautiful smelling bars that were given to me as a gift that I have never used – I will try this with them! thanks :)

Thanks Kate !! It is a great way to save – I’m excited to buy fancy bars of soap this christmas and make everyone cheap but nice gifts – especially since I’m not that crafty!

I love this! But mine didnt turn out so well :( . I used 6 cups of water and 1 bar of irish spring soap. Melted the soap with water til completely dissolved. Then I added a tbsp of coconut oil and let it cool it was really thin but creamy so it thought it’d be okay, Wrong! Lol. Once I transfered it to my container in about 8 or so hours I had a solid green mass that was absolutely impossible to get out. Is it something I did wrong? Please help :) thanks.

Mila – hmmm! trying to think about what went wrong for you – I may just have to go back to the stove and try again – we just got some new Irish Spring in! If yours is still in the kitchen, try adding water and diluting it more? I’ll let you know as soon as I go back to the drawing board and try again …. let me know what happens.
