Freeze Bananas With The Power of Lemon Juice !
Uh – Oh …. The Cheapskate Mom's Gone Bananas! As I mentioned in my previous post Cheap Breakfast Shakes - the hubby and I are eating a lot of bananas these days … and now, the baby is too!
Being such a cheapskate, I hate throwing out bananas that turn brown before I get to use them! The grocery store had a great deal on bananas today and I just couldn't pass it up – so I took to google to find out how I could freeze bananas (I've tried before and they turned brown on me!). What I found out was that it's super simple to freeze bananas when you add citric acid into the equation (aka lime or lemon juice).
So – I bought up two pounds of bananas and came home to cut and freeze them. It was super easy to do , much to my delight (I'm not a culinary wizard!) : I added two tablepoons of lemon juice into a bowl of cold water and mixed. Then I cut up the individual bananas into slices, dipped them into the lemon juice water mixture, strained them with a tea strainer (anything will do though) and bagged them up in ziplock bags. I'm so happy that my freezer is now full of bananas and the hubbie and I can enjoy breakfast shakes for over two weeks without having to buy more bananas. Yay!!!
Since I love to photograph everything , I went ahead and took a bunch of photos of this so-not-complicated-at-all process of freezing bananas and saving money.
Enjoy….
