Schedule Yourself Some Free Fun

It's winter in New England and I've been getting bored in The Cheapskate House. We simply don't have the money to go out to eat, go to the movies, or go shopping – lol – for fun. Needless to say, the house is spotless and I've been blogging A LOT
Still, I've been itching to do something enriching that doesn't require riches (excuse the pun). Yesterday, I took a break from work and went surfing….web surfing that is.
I googled "Free To Do", "Free Activities" "Free with kids" "Free Museum Days", etc in my area to try and find things the family can do for free. I also visited the websites of many local museaums and searched for free events under both their event listings and their hours/admission pages. Guess what? I almost filled up my calender with different days (ok – some of them are the same free days repeated every month or week) where there are free activities at museums. Our local children's museaum has a free day once a month. Our science museaum has free omni shows next month! There are free boat rides down the river this summer – wooooooootttttt! Normally, I would find all these events and then forget about 'em. Not so yesterday.
I got out an actual paper calender and penciled in every single free activity I could find. I know, I know – nuts, right? But now, when I look at the calender, I see an array of options that my family can do to get out of the house and fight the doldrums, for free. For folks who like to go out to eat or to the movies, it would make sense to add restaurant special days and cheap seat movie tickets to your calender as well.
GET STARTED ON FINDING LOCAL FREE ACTIVITIES:
- Get a calender & pen (or the virtual equivalents)
- Visit your local museaum websites
- Visit your local tourist websites
- Get Creative! Think of anywhere you'd like to visit – and then google it plus the keyword "free day" or "free admission" etc.
-
Depending on where you live, visit these websites:
Museaum Free Days
Smithsonian's Nationwide Museaum Free Day
I highly recommend taking an hour and filling up your calender with FREEBIES
